Job Title: Property Caretaker

Location: Crescent Site on 127th St. (2756 127 St., Surrey) and Sunnyside Site on 24th Ave. (15639 24th Ave., Surrey). Semiahmoo Site is under redevelopment (15385 Semiahmoo Ave., White Rock).

Hours and Salary: $25/hour at 14 hours/week

Job Description: The Property Caretaker will be responsible for the overall maintenance, cleanliness, and security of our properties. The ideal candidate will ensure that all aspects of the properties are in excellent condition and provide a welcoming, clean and pleasant environment. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Property Maintenance: Perform regular inspections and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment. Address any issues promptly to ensure the properties are in excellent condition.
  • Repairs: Attend all repairs to the Church properties. Change furnace filters regularly, conduct minor repairs on plumbing, electrical systems, and structural components as needed. Consult with the Operations Manager for major repairs and coordinate with external contractors. 
  • Landscaping: Coordinate with external contractors to maintain lawns, gardens, and outdoor spaces, including mowing, pruning, watering, and weeding to keep the grounds looking attractive.
  • Snow Removal: Dirt, snow, and ice should be removed from the sidewalks. Apply salt if needed. When there is a large volume of snow, call the contractor and coordinate the work of removal in conjunction with the Operations Manager.
  • Cleaning: Ensure common areas, entrances, and hallways are clean and well-maintained. Handle waste removal and recycling duties. Monitor that the church garbage is placed in the dumpster and sorted appropriately.
  • Security: Act as custodian of all Church properties, within your power, the prevention of vandalism, theft, fire, or damage of any nature. This will involve periodic on schedule visits to the premises for security checks. Be the primary contact person for the RCMP, Surrey Fire Department and Vancouver Fire and Security Co. concerning any problems. Contact the operations manager if further follow up is required.
  • Tenant Relations: Interact with renters in a courteous and professional manner. Address their concerns and needs promptly. Open and close the Church as required for rentals and special events as directed by the Church Office. 
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections and incidents. Report any significant issues to the Operations Manager. Keep an up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment at all sites. 
  • Emergency Response: Be the primary contact person for the RCMP, Surrey Fire Department and Vancouver Fire and Security Co. concerning any problems. Respond to emergency situations promptly and effectively, coordinating with emergency services as needed. Contact the Operations Manager if further follow up is required.
  • Compliance: Ensure the properties comply with all local regulations and safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in property maintenance, caretaking, or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills: Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repair work. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with tenants, vendors, and staff.
  • Availability: Must be available for on-call emergencies and flexible to work various shifts as needed. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
