Helen Armstrong from the Quaker Meeting is helping ten Afghan refugee families settle in Surrey. The men are seeking permanent work—construction helpers, drivers, warehouse workers, cleaners, bakers, security guards—and are also available now for yard work (4-hour minimum, $25/hour, with references).
Donations of household items, clothing, food, and gift cards are also welcome, along with financial contributions. A full list of needs and contact information is below:
- Several large backpacks in good condition
- Portable a/c and or fans
- Cotton or cotton-poly fabric (large pieces please)
- India, Pakistan or Afghan traditional clothing
- Women's runners size 7
- Men's runners size 8 and boy's youth 2
- New underwear all sizes and both male and female
- Disposable diapers all sizes and baby formula
- Food: Halal, durum flour, eggs, 4% milk, fruits and veggies
- Household items: paper towels, toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, body soap, shampoo-conditioner
- Gift cards to stores like Walmart or Superstore
- *No furniture is needed
