Climate Conversations - to live with respect in Creation
Climate change is not an environmental issue. It is a threat multiplier that disproportionately affects the poor and vulnerable, and therefore, taking action is part of living into the Gospel. Everyone is welcome to join in our monthly Climate Conversations on ZOOM where we discuss what is on our hearts and learn from each other. Conversations have focused on topics such as calculating carbon footprints, investing in a fossil-free future, emerging technologies, and the moral and spiritual questions posed by the climate crisis.
Contact Peter Jones (firstname.lastname@example.org) for further information and to join the conversation.
Peninsula United is again undertaking a refugee sponsorship. A support team was formed in June 2021 to sponsor an Eritrean family of 5 - mom, dad and 3 young children - who are trying to reunite with the rest of the family after having to flee their home and their country due to the war in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
While we have completed all the pre-arrival work, we expect that it will be some time before the family receives their travel documents. All sponsorships are unique and require us to practice patience. Long periods with no official communication is not uncommon. This refugee application was started in 2019, and due to COVID, understaffed or closed offices, and an enormous backlog, the wait can now be up to 4 years.
At this time we ask that you pray for the safety of this family, and for other refugees who are awaiting settlement.
Sponsorships have been an amazing journey and enriching experience for Peninsula United Church. We have been so blessed with all kinds of support and of course this work could not have happened without our volunteers and financial donors like you.
The congregation of Peninsula United is grateful for your generous donations. Thank you.
To meet the needs of new refugees and have to have enough for unexpected expenses, donations to the Refugee Fund will be gratefully received.

Emergency Weather Shelter (updated April 25, 2022)
Permanent Solution Needed
The more than 2,100 guest visits to the Emergency Weather Shelter this past winter demonstrate the urgent need for a permanent 24/7 shelter on the Peninsula. We're committed to local advocacy so that those experiencing homelessness can have a home and support. Please contact Kathy Booth at 604-535-0723 / email@example.com if you would like to join us!
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the search for a site for the Community Dinners will not continue at this time. Many thanks to Donna Roy for all her efforts to try locate a site. The search will continue when it is considered safe to offer these meals. If you would like to volunteer for a local organization delivering meals to folks in White Rock and South Surrey, please contact Kathy Booth. Several people from the congregations are volunteering for this important ministry.
Tierra Nueva - our Sister Community in El Salvador:
Cheryl Lightowlers maintains weekly contact with the community through email and learns of their many challenges including a lack of necessary food items and transportation.
We need your prayers and welcome your questions for all this Missional and Ecumenical work of the church.
