The nighttime Extreme Weather Shelter (EWR) and the daytime Warming Centre for those who are unhoused on the Peninsula are no longer open.
Some nights the Shelter welcomed over 50 guests. Over the winter, these services welcomed thousands of visits from unhoused neighbours—many seniors and people with disabilities.
Thanks to volunteers from Peninsula United who put up posters, managed clothing donations, delivered meals, provided bus, meal tickets, and completed billing for the EWR Shelter. Others were Park Ambassadors for the Warming Centre in Centennial Park.
Now unsheltered community members do not have a safe place to sleep until October. We desperately need Permanent Supportive Housing on the Peninsula.
Please email Kathy Booth at justiceandservice@peninsulaunited.com if you would like to join in advocating for this housing that provides stability, safety, resources and hope for the future. Supportive Housing is provided in every other part of Surrey.
