From October to April, the Extreme Weather Shelter in South Surrey and the daytime Warming Centre in Centennial Park offered critical care and protection to our neighbours experiencing homelessness. With both now closed for the season, many are left without safe, stable options—until the shelter reopens next fall.
These shelters were a lifeline for hundreds of community members, including seniors and individuals living with disabilities. The Extreme Weather Shelter provided 2,845 overnight stays over 104 nights, while the Warming Centre welcomed over 3,000 visits between November and March. Dedicated volunteers, including many from Peninsula United Church, offered warm meals, clean clothing, resource referrals, and compassionate presence.
Now, the urgency is clear:
Our community needs Permanent Supportive Housing.
Supportive Housing—already available in other areas of Surrey—offers more than a roof; it provides wraparound services, safety, and hope for those on the margins.
If you are willing to lend your voice or time to advocate for supportive housing in South Surrey/White Rock, please contact Kathy Booth. Together, we can push for lasting solutions and compassionate care.
